I’m sure you’ve all thought at some point just how carefree children are and how much innocence and absence of responsibilities are the greater desirabilities of life. At the same time, isnt it funny that things that you were once oblivious to becomes so pronounced once you’re a mom? Funny eh?
Not quite, but at the same time it does make you do a double take when you realise just how much you live for a little smile, a laugh and the odd number that seems to totally make your day. Still not sure what i’m talking about? Try to remember the first time your baby or growing toddler started really smiling, or the day he/she rolled over, walked, said the first words, sang the first song and blessed be, slept through the night..Now it becomes much clearer, doesn’t it?
Children sure do allow you to have a different take on things. Jokes that once seemed corny start cracking you up, learning the ABC’s or doing the latest funky moves all make for an interesting mother and child experience and get this it helps you to feel young (or younger) again. Make no bones about it that laughter is indeed the best medicine and going in for a good laughing session with your little (or big) one can truly make your day through and through.
Case in point, i watched my 3 month old daughter, lying on her back in her crib, looking up at her mobile. Suddenly she pulled the pacifier from her mouth, waved it around in excitement then popped it back in. Now i know this might sound a bit trivial but it truly got Daddy and i going all goo goo ga ga and our excitement showed since the baby was smiling through and through on realisation that for each small ‘step’ her parents would rejoice. It also somehow got me thinking about being a child again and how the most minute accomplishment simply tops, the Oscar’s, grammy’s, heck even being invited to meet your favourite celebrity.
So each time your day seems to drag on, find the strength in being a child again…With responsibilities in tow it may be very difficult to be as carefree as a child again, but just 15 minutes of seeing the world through a child’s eyes and acting accordingly can truly make your day.
And while you’re there nodding off in approval, go grab the remote and watch your kid’s favourite cartoon, Sing or listen to a goofy song, do the funky chicken dance, play a game of hopscotch or just cuddle up with your little one for a smiling session or a tickle spree.
After all, life is full of surprises, but some surprises are not repetitive, so enjoy the little ones, with your little ones and take the time daily to be a child again, if only for a moment.
XO
